In order to understand what the seven pieces that appear on this CD consist of, why they sound like they sound, and why we call them sonorous portraits, we will delve into some of the deeper concepts that underlie the whole project.

Ínsulas is a free improvisation project, where a large part of the sound material belongs to field recordings made in the Canary Islands (Spain).

We identified the possible sites, themes, materials, people, etc. that, a priori, seemed interesting (or essential) to us for the realization of the field recordings that constitute the identity axis of this work in seven parts. Once these decisions were taken, the quartet made a series of recordings in which voices, noises of machine, sea or wind, of stones and leaves, rain, trams or bells have come to constitute a great quantity of sonorous material that surprises by its richness. The last musical phase was the choice of pieces, mixing, mastering and editing.

The disc also includes a series of texts writing essay to collation of this musical experience, written by Wade Matthews and Marina Hervás, musicologist and lover of everything contemporary.
